Smith & Cross

Smith & Cross Traditional Jamaican Rum

1 Review

This Navy Style Rum (higher proof) has aromas of exotic fruits, spice, licorice and brine. We get a bit of grassiness on the back of the palate. This is pleasant sipping on its own, but the 57% ABV makes it better for cocktails.

57% ABV (50% by weight, or 100º English proof) was the traditional strength required by the British Royal Navy. At this proof a spill of the spirits would not prevent gunpowder from igniting. As important, this degree of concentration provided an efficiency in conveyance on board and onward to trading partners far away.
