LEJAY invites you to travel back in time in Burgundy, to discover the history of our blackcurrant liqueur and the legacy of the house that will forever be known as the world’s first Crème de Cassis.

The blackcurrant originally came to us from the colder climates of Scandinavia, Tibet and Siberia. It was introduced in France in the 15^th century, at which time it was prized for the quality of its leaves.  These were infused to extract their medicinal properties. It was Auguste-Denis Lagoute’s invention of Crème de Cassis which allowed this remarkable fruit to fulfil its potential and slowly gain recognition. Research has shown that it contains four times more vitamin C than oranges, as well as being extremely rich in antioxidants and vitamin E, giving this small berry the status of a super fruit.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE

Intense, fresh tart blackcurrant with succulent cherry and plum hints. 

PALATE

Rich, velvety texture with full-bodies blackcurrants that continue to open with hints of cherry and plum, becoming more luscious with exotic zest, fruit jam notes and a final wave of crème brûlée. 

FINISH

Rich-dry balance led by blackcurrant notes and hints of cherry. Intense, fruity, and balanced.
