Handy & Schiller Barreled Manhattan Cocktail
Ships from San Diego, California
The Sazerac Company has introduced Handy & Schiller Barreled Cocktails, named for two men who had an impact on the cocktail culture in New Orleans: Thomas Handy and John Schiller. Schiller was a New York bartender who found his way to New Orleans and, by 1860, began operating the Sazerac Coffeehouse in the French Quarter. Handy, originally from Maryland, worked for Schiller at the Sazerac Coffeehouse, and later went on to establish an importing and wholesale liquor business.
The Handy & Schiller Barreled Manhattan has been crafted and aged at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Bottled at 70 proof, it is made using Sazerac Rye Whiskey, vermouth and Peychaud’s Bitters, and is aged in Sazerac Rye barrels. Aromas of vanilla-almond nougat, candied cherries, butterscotch, tobacco, and toast with a satiny, crisp, moderately sweet light-to-medium body and a smooth, medium-length banana taffy, molasses, and raisin cake finish. A tasty, easy-to-use bottled cocktail, with a balanced sweetness.
TASTING NOTES
This barreled Manhattan is a well-balanced cocktail with the perfect amount of rye and spice. It has a nice finish of fruit with subtle sweetness.
