Adult 21+ Signature Required Upon Delivery
Fidencio Tepextate Joven is a premium, artisanal mezcal known for its bold, complex profile derived from the wild Agave marmorata (Tepextate). This wild agave is exceptionally rare and slow-growing, often requiring 14 to 30 years to reach full maturity before it is harvested for production.
Flavor Profile & Tasting Notes
Produced by Master Mezcalier Enrique Jimenez, this expression is celebrated for balancing the wild, savory character of the agave with bright fruit and spice.
- Nose: Earthy minerals and roasted agave are complemented by fresh herbal notes like jalapeño, wild herbs, and hints of frankincense or mastic. You may also detect tart red fruits, citrus, and a "pleasant funk".
- Palate: A "bold and spicy" texture featuring notes of green earth, white pepper, and candied fruits. Reviewers often note distinct vegetable flavors like asparagus or edamame alongside stone fruits like grilled apricots and plums.
- Finish: Long, warming, and smooth with lingering baking spices and a smoky essence.
Artisanal Production Process
The quality of Fidencio Tepextate is rooted in traditional Oaxacan methods performed at the Fabrica de Amigo del Mezcal distillery:
- Agave Sourcing: 100% wild-foraged Tepextate from the rugged hillsides of Santiago Matatlán or Santa Maria Zoquitlan, Oaxaca.
- Roasting: Agave hearts (piñas) are roasted for five days in a traditional earthen pit fueled by black oak and volcanic rock.
- Milling & Fermentation: The roasted agave is crushed by a tahona (volcanic stone wheel) and fermented naturally with wild native yeasts in open-top pine vats.
- Distillation: Double-distilled in small copper alembic stills and typically bottled undiluted (Joven) at approximately 47.8% to 49% ABV (roughly 96–98 proof).
