Columbia Winery Composition Red Wine
Columbia Winery Red Blend features grapes selected from specific AVAs throughout the Columbia Valley. For 2017 we sourced mostly from Yakima Valley for the quality and expression of its red varietals, especially Syrah, which added the complexity we were seeking for this vintage. A cooler and wetter winter kicked off Harvest 2017 before mild, sunny weather returned producing fruit of excellent quality.
WINEMAKING NOTES
After harvest, the grapes for our blend were destemmed and gently transferred to fermenters. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks for up to 10 days at a maximum temperature of 90 F. Throughout fermentation, we performed selective rack and returns on individual tanks for optimal extraction of color and flavor. This wine saw both French and American oak to create well integrated flavors and a rich mouthfeel.
TASTING NOTES
Our winemaker combined a selection of Syrah, Merlot and Malbec grapes for our 2017 Red Blend, producing a wine with intricate layers of complexity and supple tannins. Sumptuous aromas of red fruit on the nose are backed by hints of vanilla and brown spice over plum, boysenberry and ripe cherry notes on the palate. Our Red Blend is incredibly food-friendly, equally delightful with Monday night’s leftover lasagna or your favorite grilled steak.
